COMBINED SYSTEMS WITH HULK GROUND ANCHORS

Arrigo Gabbioni Italia srl, thanks to the collaboration with the Total Anchor company, offers, for geotechnical, civil, hydraulic and agroforestry applications, some innovative systems that combine double-twist wire mesh products with Hulk mobile anchor percussion ground anchors .

The objective is to provide designers, organizations and companies with effective, rapid, safe systems, made with certified materials with high performance and durability, which allow them to increase the safety coefficient of the works and implement their performance.

The proposed combined systems can be used for:

⦁ carry out works in tied gabions (retaining walls, slope protection works, hydraulic and agroforestry protection works);

⦁ implement the stabilization and performance of metal mattresses for hydraulic protection;

⦁ implement stabilization and improve the adhesion of anti-burrowing fauna systems (anti-badger/anti-nutria, anti-nutria/anti-shrimp) and anti-erosive geocomposites in hydraulic and embankment areas;

⦁ implement stabilization and improve the adhesion of double-twisted metal mesh or geocomposites as part of the cortical coverings of slopes and earth slopes;

⦁ carry out cortical strengthening of slopes and earth slopes;

⦁ stabilize and reinforce support works in pre-assembled reinforced soil.

HULK GROUND ANCHOR SYSTEM

The Total Anchor Hulk system is a mobile anchor percussion anchoring system - produced in Australia by AR+R PTY LTD, an ISO 9001, OHS ISO 45001, ISO 14001 certified company with over thirty years of experience in the sector - made with highly durable materials with certified performance, with the highest resistance values among the percussion anchoring systems on the market, which stands out for its ease and speed of installation, allowing for prompt intervention, saving time and reducing labor costs .
Whatever the design depth to be reached, to install this anchoring system it is sufficient to have a pneumatic hammer or a mini-excavator, an installation guide rod and a jack (proof tester). No augers or drilling machines are necessary nor does it require the use of cement grout.

The system is characterized by an engineered mobile head in the shape of a chisel (“anchor”) designed to facilitate insertion and increase the cone of resistance and by connecting elements in stainless steel cables or continuous threaded rods.

Once the design depth has been reached, an upward traction is exerted through the connecting element which rotates the anchor head into a position perpendicular to the ground, thus blocking the system.
Each anchor is checked and tested in the field during construction, therefore it is possible to immediately establish whether the sealing capacity complies with that of the project. In the case of shallow and small constructions, it is sufficient to rotate the anchor head and check the holding capacity with a simple dynamometer.

The Hulk terminals are made of ductile cast iron with TDG (thermal diffusion galvanisation) coating, a coating which offers excellent resistance to corrosion compared to other more traditional systems (for example hot dip galvanising), and which also protects against scratches and chipping during the installation process.
As regards the elements constituting the connection system, all the cables and related accessories are made of stainless steel while the threaded bars and related accessories are treated with a suitable coating to guarantee the durability required by the project.
For the purposes of controlling stray currents, for example in the railway sector, copper ferrules are introduced into the system.
Since the terminal is made of cast iron, the Hulk system provides a guarantee of greater resistance even during the installation phase compared to other systems that use aluminum terminals.

 

GABIONS WITH HULK ANCHORS

Arrigo Gabbioni offers an innovative system of Tirantati Gabions with application of Hulk insertion ground anchors.
The proposed system - effective, rapid, safe, made with highly durable materials and with certified performance - allows you to increase the safety coefficient of the gabion work by reducing its footprint and canceling the effect of any sliding surfaces behind it wall, without the need for further excavations and excavations, without resorting to the use of specialized machinery such as drilling machines or the use of grout or cement mortar.

This is possible due to the cone of resistance generated by the certified Hulk ground anchoring system, an engineered system, optimized on the basis of experimental data and thirty years of experience in the field, which can be sized according to the project needs in all its components.

Application areas
The main application areas of tie-rod gabion structures with Hulk ground anchors can be found in:

• construction of counter-bank and underslope retaining walls for the consolidation of landslide slopes, road and railway embankments or architectural solutions;

• creation of both longitudinal and transversal hydraulic protections (for example hydraulic bridles);

• realization of naturalistic engineering works.

The particular technical and application characteristics of the combined system made up of gabions and Hulk percussion anchors allow, in many application areas, to obtain a notable series of advantages compared to the use of other systems:

- heavy and/or expensive metal structures inside the gabionade;
- further excavations or excavations, drilling;

MATTRESSES ANCHORED WITH HULK ANCHORS

Metal mattresses, normally used in the hydraulic sector to protect riverbeds, embankments and canal banks, can be stabilized by anchoring Hulk to the ground, possibly using an appropriately sized load-bearing support.

Application areas
The main application areas of mattresses anchored with the Hulk system can be found in:

• creation of longitudinal hydraulic embankment protections;

• realization of naturalistic engineering works.

Examples of typical anchoring
Based on project needs, the following systems can be used:

⦁ “light” anchoring: HP35 anchoring system with ductile iron anchor with TDG coating, combined with stainless steel cable connection and related accessories.

⦁ “heavy” anchoring: HG100 anchoring system with ductile iron anchor and TDG coating, combined with a CTB steel bar connection with a diameter between 20 and 25 mm, with TDG coating, and related accessories.

SYSTEMS FOR BANK AND CORTICAL COVERINGS WITH HULK ANCHORAGES

To implement the stabilization and adhesion of the nets and geocomposites used both in the hydraulic sector (anti-badger/anti-nutria nets, anti-nutria/anti-shrimp and anti-erosive geocomposites) and in the field of light cortical slope coverings (stone-protection nets, anti-erosive geocomposites), it is proposes the use of combined systems with Hulk ground anchors.
The figure below shows an exemplary diagram of application in the embankment sector which includes the use of anti-fauna digging nets/geocomposites and the Hulk anchoring system.

⦁ HP25 anchoring system with glass fiber reinforced nylon anchor, combined with stainless steel cable connection and related accessories, anchoring length up to 1.2 m.
⦁ HP35 anchor with TDG-coated ductile iron anchor, combined with stainless steel cable connection and related accessories, anchor length up to 2.1 m

For the creation of cortical reinforcements of slopes or slopes in the ground, we propose the use of combined systems that use double-twisted networks or geocomposites combined with Hulk ground anchors.
